Help Net Mesh

Nets

Choosing the right net gets very involved.  We have tried to break it down to easy selections and how to's.  Please let us know if things are difficult to understand and where.  We have an intimate knowledge of these selections and sometimes that experience is detrimental in describing them.  Feel free to feedback.  All feedback is helpful.

Choosing the Net Material

There are five choices of net material.  These net materials were chosen because they will not fray when torn making it harder for tears to propagate.  All net materials are strong for their weight, but make it easy to maneuver the animal at the bottom of the net.  Nets are priced by the circumference size, depth and mesh choice (C and D mesh is additional because our cost is also).

We have included pictures of the net material.  The opening size and pictures are to help assist in the selection and are magnified to show the texture of the materials used.

A Mesh        Mesh A - Polyester - Opening size 1/16" - 140lb (63.5kg) psi  burst strength

USES  - Small:  birds, primates, mammals, marsupials, and aquatic creatures

Generally, animals of less than 1 lb or 1/2K.

Strength of this fabric is very low.

        ADVANTAGES

        - Mesh is light so it will not cause damage to delicate animals

        - Used to prevent feather and digit injury

        - Mesh has narrow holes so it will not allow small delicate digits to become entangled

        DISADVANTAGES

         - This mesh can be torn with sharp beaks and claws.

B Mesh
Mesh B - Polyester - Opening size 1/4" - 120lb (54.4kg) psi  burst strength

USES  - Medium: Aquatic birds, felines, canines, marsupials, fish

Strength of this fabric is medium to high.

        ADVANTAGES

         - Mesh is a little wider allows sediments and small debris to pass through

         - Delicate enough to use on medium sized birds without injury.
        DISADVANTAGES
         - Mesh can allow small digits to become entangled in the nets.

        C MeshMesh C  - Polyester - Opening size 1/8" - 260lb (117.9kg) psi burst strength
USES  - Exceptionally strong and/or dangerous animals
Strength of this fabric is high.

                 ADVANTAGES

                 - Mesh does not stretch and easy manage

                 - Strength will manage even the most dangerous animal.
                 DISADVANTAGES
                 - Mesh can injure due to strength and weight
                 - Mesh does not stretch and is very stiff
                 - Mesh sometimes exceeds the suspension and handle weight.

                    D MeshMesh D  - Polyester - Opening size 1/8"- 230lb (104.3kg) psi burst strength
USES  - Best overall net mesh, most popular
Strength of this fabric is high.

                 ADVANTAGES

                 - Mesh strength and versatility makes this our most popular net material

                 - Mesh allows for capture of any size animal without fear of escape.
                 - Material still stretches allowing for movement of the animal without injury
                 DISADVANTAGES
                 - Mesh can injure due to strength and weight

                    E MeshMesh E  - Polyester - Opening size 5/8" -170lb (77. 1kg) psi burst strength
USES  - Fish, aquatic birds, large birds
Strength of this fabric is medium.

                 ADVANTAGES

                  - Mesh is a little wider allows sediments and small debris to pass through

          - Delicate enough to use on medium sized birds without injury.
         DISADVANTAGES
          - Mesh can allow small digits to become entangled in the nets.

 ADVANTAGES

  - Mesh is light so it will not cause damage to delicate animals

  - Used to prevent feather and digit injury

Choosing Net Depths

Choosing the correct net depth depends on the way you are going to use it.

·        If you are going to pin the animal, then you do not need a very deep bag.  We suggest bags a few inches larger than the animal you want to pin.

·        If you are going to flip it into the mesh over the rim, then we suggest a bag around the same depth as the size of the circumference, maybe a bit smaller or bigger in inches, depending on the nature and temperament of the animal.

·        If you are going to net it and twist down, then a much deeper net is required.  We suggest depth no less than the circumference size up to doubling the size of the circumference.

·        If you would like a cord lock attached to cut off escape we suggest you add about 1/2 the size of the specimen to the depth.

This is a rough guideline to follow.  If you have a specific application in mind.  Please call us and we would be happy to assist you via email or by phone.

Choosing Mesh Colors

We offer four colors at no extra cost to you.  Colors conceal or contrast with the environment.

·        White  - has lowest concealment in land captures and aquatic captures.

·        Brown  - the most popular and most concealable in any environment

·        Blue     - aquatic applications for low contrast to the water

·        Green  - used among vegetation for low contrast to the leaves

Note about our net colors:

We dye the nets so variations in color shades are not guaranteed.  We use non-toxic environmentally friendly dyes.   Because of the type of dye we use, it sometimes varies in shade.  We could use more toxic dyes, but we are trying to do our part to limit the toxins in our environment during our manufacturing of our products. We hope you understand our reasoning behind our choices when we make our product.  And let's face it, small variations may actually help conceal the net better.

Additional Net Options

As added options, we offer cord lock assemblies and add on hems.

·        Top-Cord Lock - A cord lock assembly  is strung through the same hem as the suspension.  This is only useable for our V-shaped suspensions.  It will not close on the other suspensions because the polycarbonate gets in the way.  This allows you to lock in a specimen and keep the suspension free for additional use.  It allows for speedier multiple specimen capture.

·        Cord Lock. - A cord lock near the top of the net so the specimen can be locked into the net after capture.  This is available on all nets with all suspensions.

·        Bottom Cord Lock. - The bottom is not sewn together. We sew a hem similar to the suspension hem.  We loop cord material at the end of the net and add a lock.  This allows you to capture a specimen and release it quickly into a new enclosure or transport cage. This enables easy release of a captured animal without having to jostle it.  The biggest disadvantage is very heavy animals can pull the cord loose from the lock.  We do not recommend this for heavy weighted animals.  The cord lock is strong, but a wiggling weighty animal could escape.

·        Add D Hem - Additional hem made of D mesh material is added to the hem holding the suspension. This material is rugged and will help lengthen the life of your net.
